Dominion Is the Most Addictive Online Card Game of All Time

A picture of Dominion cards laid out on a table.

People enjoy playing the Dominion card game around the world.

I’m serious. This online Dominion card game from Brettspielwelt.de is so addictive that it ought to be a controlled substance. I’ve wasted almost 3 hours playing this silly game tonight, and most of the time I was losing to a player who was far superior to me. He was so much better than I am that I finally started trying to copy his strategy (“borrow” would be a kinder word, but it’s probably not the truth.) Any way, another non-productive night shot playing a silly online card game.

Don’t know what Dominion is? It’s one of those things that Dungeons & Dragon geeks know about, probably, but average people–maybe not. Dominion is a deck building card game, but it’s not a collectible card game. (Magic: The Gathering is a collectible card game, and as geeky as I am, I never could figure that damn game out.) Dominion has won all kinds of awards, and it’s probably just as much fun to play in person as it is online.

My wife told me a story about some woman who wrote in to an advice column because he’d gotten fired from his job for playing some addictive card game or another. She wanted to know if other people could get help through human resources for their drug and/or alcohol addiction, then couldn’t her husband also avoid getting fired?

I don’t know how the columnist in question answered her question, but I’d be surprised that a company would cut someone much slack for spending too much time playing an online card game while they’re supposed to be working.
